Lessons from Ethan

As I was setting the table the other night, I put a fork on the right side of the plate. Ethan, who was following me around, gasped in horror.

"No mom! The fork doesn't go on the right side. It goes on the left side. That's how you set a table."

Thank you Ethan.

how did he know that? that's the one i always forget. it seems like it should go on the right because everyone is usually right handed. whoever established it goes on the left is out of their mind. oh, and good for you for setting the table. I just toss stuff at the family as they are sitting around the table, or tell them to get their own fork.

Sounds like TV is doing a pretty good job raising our kids.

We thought of your family tonight as we sat around the kitchen table eating chocolate cake for Rebecca's birthday. Funny how we now associate your family with cake.

The fork goes on the left because you are supposed to pick it up in your left hand, knife in the right, and cut your food before you put it in your mouth.
