So, this is our new couch...that's right, we got a new couch. We deciced that our old couch wasn't worth moving, and we'd need a couch wherever we move to, so we bought a new one. We've wanted a new one for a long, long time, but we felt we couldn't justify spending the money until now. The old couch, while we were grateful to have it, started being a pain. For those of you acquainted with the old one, you know that it would "eat" everything. We would lose toys, money, remotes, cell phones, socks...you name it...down the sides of the couch. Then, we would have to get out the flashlight and go "diving" for our stuff. More than once, I must confess, if Matthew complained about being bored, I would dig through the couch and reclaim some of his old toys (or perhaps Daniel's, Craig's and Nathan's, from when they used the couch)...he would get so excited to have his toys back...sad, really. I actually have small scars on my arms and hands from the metal couch frame scratching me when I tried to retrieve our stuff. It was also starting to fall apart. Sometimes you would even find yourself sitting with a hard piece of wood jabbing you in the back. Yeah, glad to be rid of the couch.
The only drawback to getting a new couch was figuring out what do with the old one. It would cost $129 to have someone come pick it up (totally not worth it), DI wouldn't take it, our lead on a guy who would supposedly haul it away for free didn't pan out, so we were left with dumping it on some college students' doorstep in Provo under cover of darkness (they would have totally thought it was awesome), or taking it to the landfill. Luckily, Andrea and Steve (James' sister and her husband) have an old van that they let us borrow. We were able to load the couch, its matching chair, and our old lawnmower into it and take it to the dump. Moving our couch out of the living room was quite an adventure. As you can see from the picture above, the couch left a trail of "goodies" wherever it went (we told you it eats everything!). We had to take the legs off of it, and eventually we had to take the front door off it's hinges so that it would fit through. Once we got to the dump, James unloaded it onto a concrete slab. Then, a little bull-dozer came along on pushed it over the edge of the concrete slab and it fell into a big pit. Yay! It's gone.
Our new couch is a little smaller than our old one...hey, who's couch is it anyways?! We all have to jockey for position on this one...apparently the kids like to nap on it. What can I say? It is a really comfortable couch.
